Jayne Reel, LMSW

Licensed Master Social Worker

Jayne uses an individualized, collaborative approach to identify strengths and provide her clients with the tools to become the best version of themselves. Her style is warm, encouraging, flexible, and goal-oriented. Her approach is rooted in evidence-based treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Jayne works with children, teens, and adults in Brooklyn Heights and online.

Anxiety and OCD: Jayne is passionate about helping people of all ages heal from anxiety and OCD. She takes a present-focused, goal-oriented, and skills-based approach to empower you to take control of your life. OCD is complex and often misunderstood, even by trained therapists. That’s why it’s essential to work with a therapist who uses the gold-standard treatment that’s backed by research, Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), to treat OCD. In treating anxiety, Jayne pulls from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to teach her clients real, practical skills to utilize in daily life. Whether you’re dealing with OCD or anxiety (or both!), using the tools learned in therapy, you will gain insight into your thought process and learn lifelong coping skills!

Perinatal and Postpartum: Preparing for and caring for your baby can be a joyful, loving experience. But that’s not the reality for 1 in 5 new and expecting mothers/birthing people, who experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). If this feels like you, you are not alone and what you’re going through is treatable. With clinical experience working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Mother/Baby inpatient units, Jayne is uniquely positioned to help parents and families (yes, Dads too!) overcome postpartum mood disorders, perinatal anxiety, and OCD.

LGBTQ+ population: As a queer therapist herself, Jayne especially welcomes LGBTQ+ clients, as well as those who may find themselves questioning their sexuality or identity. She also acknowledges that no family is identical, and not all pregnant people are women! Jayne provides an affirming and empowering space to help queer individuals and families heal and grow.

Children, Adolescents, and Families: Jayne loves working with children and their families. At UVA Children’s, she worked with children and families alike as they navigated the unknowns of hospitalization, often facing disability and loss. Her extensive experience working with kids in schools, camps, and hospitals gives her a well-rounded understanding of the stressors affecting children, adolescents, and their parents. When working with children, Jayne utilizes additional modalities such as play therapy, parent training, and exposure therapy. She is warm, friendly, and nonjudgmental - she creates a safe and encouraging environment where children and their families can thrive.
